It seems like before the summer actually starts when spring is in the air I have all these dreams of the things Adele and I will do this summer. I make plans and then it gets HOT!!! So, this summer I really want our time to be fun and fun-filled........ of course not everyday! I really want to make the best of our time together over the next few months.... since she goes to "real" school next year (for those of you that don't already know, what I mean by "real" school is all day school. She just finished a 1/2 day kindergarten program).
So, here is my question. I was wondering if anyone has any good ideas (or any ideas at all) about any activities or crafts that would be fun? By activities I don't really mean anything that costs a lot of money. I mean activities like going to the children's museum (local) or going to City Lake with our friends for a picnic and to feed the ducks. Things that will really make some memories.
My second question is, who would like to join us? It is always more fun with friends.

I think you should look for local ministry opportunities... for instance... putting siding on someone's unfinished shop. Keep it local.
I dont think Jason's answer is real cool....haha. I have an idea you can take her to Indian Lake in Tarboro for a picnic and ride the paddle boats =)
or you could buy a slip and side and grill hotdogs or cheeseburgers for lunch. Or go to that bird thingy in Scotland Neck
by the way monkiesee02 is Angela Spivey =)

You could visit the Rose Garden in Wilson (I know how much those roses meant to Adele) http://www.wilsonrosegarden.com/
Or the botanical garden
http://www.wilson-co.com/arboretum.html
The botantical garden is Comprised of a tree collection, five different turf grass species evaluation, bird and butterfly gardens, and display gardens, this botanical garden is home to over 150 varieties of plants, trees, shrubs, perennials, and vines with over 235 plant species recognized.
Or you could go to the Imagination Station in WIlson

WOW Angela, Thanks for all the info. Those are some great ideas! Now I challenge everyone else reading to come up with just as many ideas as you gave me. Thanks, Beth
By the way ANgela, do you have a part time job at the botanical garden? Beth
Great Question. Since you mentioned HOT i was thinking inside stuff--i plan to read a book with my kids-- Charlotte's Web i think. The novel. I want to read a chapter or so then have them draw or journal....After we finish the book we will watch the movie. I think they will enjoy that and it will make a memory. We did How to Eat Fried Worms last year but did not make the journal/drawings I think that will be more memorable. I think another good idea would be to look into a kids cookbook or get an idea online and then you and Adele make something once a week or so (meal, dessert, slushy ect...)write down your recipe and take a photo if it is photo worthy :) As you can tell I am all about documenting the memory....And to answer your last question if you come up with ideas you want friends to tag along we would love too....
hmmm...I will have to give it some thought. I am going to teach my kids to play tennis this summer. I have promised them for 2 years not and haven't done it. This year, they say they are going to hold me to it. I like Tess' idea about cooking and taking pictures. You could make your own cookbook of Adele's Summer Recipes. Get back to ya on the other ideas.
Unless they have lost the funding for it, the library (Rocky Mount, Tarboro, and Pinetops) has a lot of summer activities for the kids. They also used to have a story time where someone reads to them. My kids used to love it when they were little. Inside, cool, inexpensive, fun; what more could you ask for? :o)
Hello... siding people... hello!?!
(if not for me, then for the Batts)
You haven't finished that siding yet? I hadn't noticed.
you might try the local movie theaters. There is one by us that last summer showed a childs movie, Disney I think, around 10 am I believe its free for the children or really cheap. At least it was before, might be worth checking into.
For those of you that are interested Robin is right that the local library will be having different programs this summer. There was one on snakes and another on bugs and more. Just go to there website and click on kids.
Hey Beth: I dont work there LOL why do you ask....I copied and pasted that little paragraph from their website just to give you the details =) Isnt that sweet...LOL
Anyway, here is the website to the bird thingy I was talking about in Scotland Neck
